New York City isn't just home to towering skyscrapers and people who walk at Olympic speeds – it's also where I've had some truly incredible meals! After eating my way across the city (or trying to in 5 days), I've put together this list of my absolute favourite spots. From pizza joints that made me consider moving, to taco spots that have ruined all other tacos for me forever, these are the restaurants I enthusiastically dragged all of my friends to. These aren't just places to eat – they're the spots where I've created some of my favourite NYC memories. Consider this your personal food tour from a girl who will plan her whole trip around where we eat.

Bagels: A New York Staple

No culinary journey through New York City is complete without indulging in its iconic bagels. Renowned for their chewy texture and glossy crust, New York bagels are a beloved breakfast staple that reflects the city's rich cultural tapestry. From classic plain bagels to innovative flavour combinations, New York offers a vibrant selection of bagel shops, each with its own twist on this timeless treat.

Conveniently located in the heart of NYC, it is a must-visit for any bagel lover. Plus I'm obsessed with their branding.

Thompkins Square Bagels in NYC is renowned for its freshly baked bagels that boast a perfect chewy texture. Patrons appreciate the wide variety of flavours and toppings, making it a go-to spot for breakfast or a quick snack. The friendly atmosphere and quick service add to its charm, ensuring that customers keep coming back for more.

Pizza

Looking for a late night slice? NYC pizza is a beloved culinary staple featuring a thin, sturdy crust, mozzarella cheese, and simple tomato sauce. Famous spots like Joe's Pizza, Di Fara Pizza, and Prince Street Pizza highlight the city's diverse pizza culture, offering traditional slices, Sicilian, and Grandma styles. Whether by the slice or whole, NYC pizza is an essential New York experience.

Among my top choices are Joe's and Prince Street, both of which offer exceptional flavours and unique styles. I've also heard great things about L'industrie, but unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to try it this time!

Dinner

We love a share plate and NYC delivers. For dinner in NYC, we indulged in a delightful array of share plates at Gurume in Hell's Kitchen, where the flavours are as vibrant as the atmosphere. We savoured their signature tuna tartare, beautifully presented with avocado and a zesty citrus dressing, alongside crispy tempura vegetables that added a satisfying crunch. You also must try the Black Sesame Bread pudding, its stunning!

C as in Charlie offered a cozy setting with inventive dishes that kept us coming back for more. The 99-cent sweet tea is a delightful beverage, and its affordability combined with its classic flavor has made it a beloved choice for many, particularly within Southern cuisine. Additionally, their Popcorn Chicken, adorned with a delicious gochujang glaze and served in an adorable popcorn-style presentation, is the best I've ever tasted.

At Catch, we enjoyed a lively and modern atmosphere. The lobster mac and cheese was rich and creamy and its something I wish I could have all the time. While the Crispy Shrimp, seasoned and cooked just right, provided a satisfying crunch. The crispy brussel sprouts added a nice contrast, making for a well-rounded dining experience.

Lastly, Little Ruby's in Soho offered a delightful atmosphere for comfort food that truly felt like home. We savored their delectable shrimp pasta, accompanied by an irresistible serving of crispy Brussels sprouts.

Looking for something a little more low-key? Have a group that can't agree on a dinner spot? Try the Chelsea Market and check out Los Tacos No.1. Featuring traditional Mexican recipes made with fresh ingredients and a variety of options from carne asada to vegetarian dishes. The quick service and casual vibe make it perfect for those on the go or looking to socialize over good food.
